WHAT IS THE ADVANCE OPEN WATER

CERTIFICATION

When PADI introduced the Advence Open Water course it was frowned upon. Reason was simply because of the word ADVANCE, this lead to SCUBA divers thinking that they are better drivers than they actually are. I must admit as an instructor I would completely agree with this at first. I know PADI has an agency is not stupid. So it was time for some research we know how we look forward to that. Once my research was completed I found a very good explanation why. New divers have the biggest potential for problems in the first 10 dive. So this course was simply introduced to keep you SCUBA diving with an instructor for at least nine of those ten SCUBA dive. The research showed that the accident rate in new divers was reduced by a total of 60% So as an Open Water Instructor, I completely agree with the principle of keeping SCUBA divers close to an instructor while they continue their education. I personally wish that it was call Open Water Two instead of using the word ADVANCED.

Another thing I hear all the time I have been SCUBA diving the years. Why do I need to complete my Advanced Open Water Course. I would agree, but unfortunately you cannot take the rescue course without first completing the Advanced Water Course. I truly believe the rescue course is the best course in the PADI range. I have certified divers as Advanced Open Water divers then they moved on to the rescue course. Each time the SCUBA diver WISHED THEY DID THE RESCUE COURSE YEARS BEFORE. You learn so much technique on how to rescue somebody else that gets into trouble and you could possibly save a life. Remember SCUBA diving accidents are actually very rare and you will probably never need to use these skills, they are good to have just in case.

PADI Advanced Open Water, consists of a total of five dives. One of those dives being a deep dive (a dive beyond 60 feet) also a navigation dive this is where we teach you how to use a compass, swim a box under water. There are three adventure dives which is a sneak preview of the specialty courses you choose three. I would suggest wreck diver, boat diver and peak performance buoyancy. But you can choose as you wish. But remember this is a preview of the specialty, it is not the specialty course. If you like your preview, we would be more than happy to continuing and complete the specialties courses of your choice. If you continue your education in SCUBA diving and achieve five specialties and the PADI rescue course. This would make you a master SCUBA diver which is the highest nonprofessional rating you can achieve.
