DIVE BOATS

SCUBA diving in Oahu, Hawaii, is DIFFERENT THEN SCUBA DIVING IN MOST COUNTRIES AROUND THE WORLD! Most companies do not run their own boats. Companies or independent instructors rent space from the captains. The very few companies that do own boats, sell companies or independent instructors boat seats. So excuse the pun "we are all in the same boat" I am just being more honest with you than all the other companies that try to claim they own several boat which I can assure you they do not. This is the reason you see the same boats on everybody's websites.

KAHALA KAI

SOUTHSIDE OF OAHU

The Kahala Kai operates out of the south, specifically at Kuala Basin and is owned and operated by Captain Carl. When not in use as for SCUBA diving charter, it doubles as a sailing charter. This vessel is fully equipped with all US Coast Guard mandated safety and communication equipment. The Kahala Kai is 36 feet long with a 16 foot beam with the entrance to the water located on the front of the boat.

You should be able to see Fisherman's Wharf Restaurant. This is where you will be picked-up.

From the west side, this drive is approximately 1 hour to 1 1/2 hours. If you are coming from The North Shore this drive is probably 1 hour to 1 1/2 hours. Obviously Saturdays, Sundays and vacation days it's much quicker. This is Hawaiian state holidays you might be on vacation but the rest of is unfortunately are not.

Please be at Fisherman's Wharf Restaurant no later than the times published. If you are later then the published time. We will not have sufficient preparation time. PLEASE BE ON TIME. The boat will not wait for anyone. SCUBA diving does not run on Hawaiian, time.

First Charter Meeting Time: 7:30am
Second Charter Meeting Time: 10:45am

SOUTH SEAS II

WESTSIDE OAHU

This vessel operates on the westside of our beautiful island of OAHU. It is owned by Capt Mike. Some times we get the luxury of his company as captain. But in this day and age you're more likely to see one of his captains that work for him (Semi-retirement must be nice) FOR YOUR SAFETY this vessel is fully equipped with all US Coast Guard mandated safety and communication equipment. This vessel is not on as tight a schedule as the boats on the south side. If you are good on air I can give you up to one hour bottom time (term that SCUBA divers use to explain the amount of time underwater) which is a little better than the 45 minutes I can give you on the south side. I will only go west if SCUBA divers request it. This is simply because it's such a long drive (all relative) This limits mean to one trip per day as opposed to two. It does cost $20 more per SCUBA diver than SCUBA diving on the south side. I need a minimum of three SCUBA divers to head west, If there are only two SCUBA divers there is a surcharge of $40. Sorry for the need for the extra cost but this trip takes approximately 3 hours longer than heading south, it also costs approximately $45 in gas.

Generally speaking this is the flattest and calmest side of the island. 90% of the time the ocean on this side of the island is flat light glass. In my personal opinion the reef diving is better on the west side.
