SEA CAVE
This is a dive site I will not take anyone to unless they have dived with me before. The reason is, this is a very technical dive. The entrance to the cavern is in about 40-50 ft. of water. There is light that comes in from the surface, so you can see. Once you are in the cavern, you have to stick to the walls; either on the left or the right. If you try to dive in the middle, you will end up like clothes in a washing machine. You cannot afford to lose buoyancy and end up on the surface as the rocks will smash you to pieces. When you get to the back of the cavern, which is in as little as 20 ft. of water, there is a very low, low frequency base that you feel through your whole body. This is due to the pounding of the waves above you. The cavern and wall dive are the only sites that I have personally had the experience of diving with Monk seals on the island of Oahu. In my opinion, this whole wall between Hanauma Bay and Portlock are some of the best dive sites on the island…IF the weather Gods allow us the opportunity to dive there.
